Surrender Prevention Program

Sponsored by the Animal House

What is it?

At River Cities Humane Society for Cats, we believe many pet surrenders can be prevented when families have access to the right resources and support. Our surrender prevention efforts are designed to help pets stay where they belong — at home with the people who love them.

If you are experiencing temporary hardship, we encourage you to reach out. Our team will work with you to explore possible solutions before surrender becomes necessary.

Pet Food Pantry

Our community pet food pantry is available to help families facing temporary financial hardship.

The pantry provides food for any type of pet, not just cats. Thanks to generous donations from our community, we are able to distribute hundreds of meals every day to pets in need.

The pantry is restocked daily during shelter operations.

Pantry Hours

Tuesday – Saturday
Restocked beginning as early as 8:00 AM
Shelter open to the public 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM

This program is made possible in part through the generosity of Animal House, who sponsored the pantry storage unit and continues to support the program through occasional food donations.

Donations to the pantry are always welcome and directly help pets remain with their families.

Temporary Assistance & Supplies

In some situations, families may only need short-term support to get through a difficult time. When possible, we can provide temporary supplies such as food or basic pet care items while helping you explore longer-term solutions.

Veterinary Resource Referrals

Veterinary care can sometimes be financially overwhelming. Our team can help connect pet owners with local veterinary resources and assistance programs that may help reduce or manage the cost of care.

Temporary Safe Boarding

For individuals experiencing domestic violence, housing transitions, or other emergency situations, we may be able to provide temporary boarding for cats.

This service is intended to give owners the time they need to secure safe housing without losing their pet.

Temporary boarding is typically available for up to one month, though timeframes may be adjusted case by case depending on circumstances and space availability.
